Common Denomenator

Have you ever heard that the brain is like a discounting mechanism? Say for example, someone gifts you a diamond necklace and it sparkles, you open it and you love it and you are so happy, thrilled, exalted, joyful at first. Then the next day it still makes you happy but a little less so. A year later you see the diamond necklace and think "Oh that old thing." The reason why the brain discounts things is for survival. You need to be prepared for new experiences because they could signal danger. Wouldn't it be great if we could reset that since there aren't a lot of sabertooth tigers jumping out at us. It seems like a design flaw that our brains default setting signal danger and survival instead of something like joy or appreciation. I think this is what happened to me, my Mother before me and her Mother before her. She got so focused on picking up danger signals that her discounting mechanism forgot to see all the good stuff in her life. And maybe Dad had quit seeing the diamond necklace side of Mom.
What if we could use more capacity of the brain and instead of focusing on picking up danger signals we try to see the safety, abundance, joy in our personal experience. When great disasters come its a fact that community grows stronger. From my personal experience my pain was trying to get my attention. The longer I ignored her, the louder she became. Until one day I was called to sit in silence. I breathed deeply and experienced my body. I felt the tension, hurt, suffering and ignorance. And then I felt the flow and cracks, the spaces where light filled my body and I sat and stared into the abyss. I sat for so long that eventually I could see the cosmos. I realized that I was harboring my pain because it made me feel special. Pain shook me to the core and it shook me awake. I learned when malpractice is probed on humanity, wildlife, Earth, myself is implicated as well. Humanity is being challenged to move on to the next stage of our evolution. We have been gifted love and if we can learn to use love fully then for the second time in her/history people will have been given fire. Thank you for listening. Drink lots of water and accept where you are in your journey. Be easy on yourself and others because we are all doing the best we can.
Blessings,
OneLove *~_~*
