My beautiful Wife Nicole
My wife Nicole was diagnosed with stage 3-4 Brain Cancer in 2013. She fought a hard battle, which included surgery, radiation, and chemo therapy. She was able to fight for 3 years, until the cancer became very aggressive and took her life May 2016, she was 35. Before she passed, she spent a little over a month in the Palliative Care Unit in Lloydminster, SK. where the staff there were excellent! The atmosphere was amazing and all staff did what they could to make her feel comfortable and loved knowing that her time was coming. For the most part the room was great, as we had the biggest one, but with only 2 other rooms available for Palliative, they were quite small with no room for family, we were fortunate to get the room we did. Plus there was stuff in the room that was falling apart and needed repair. As I was with her, I fixed what I could but most of the hospital for what I see needs repairs everywhere, should the funding not be there to help with this?
Nicole was appreciative of what the staff had done for us, she always wanted a way to pay them back. With this last year the family and I put on a Golf Tournament in her Memory, with part of the donations going to the Canadian Cancer Society - Directed to the research of Brain Cancer - $6,000, but most went to the Lloydminster Health Foundation, which was put directly to the Palliative Care Unit there, approx. $12,000 was raised for them. This year we are planning it again, and plan to put all toward the Palliative Care, and maybe try and help with more comfy Chairs for family, or other items like that to help. Nicole was my Soul Mate, and can't wait to see her again when it is my time. But knowing that I honored her by doing what I can for Palliative Care, and knowing that this helps with other families in their time of need, makes me feel really good, and have done things right by her. Plus the staff there deserves any help with anything as they are fantastic!
